alright so basically i have a thing of old school tattoos.
swallows anchors sacred hearts nautical stars stuff like that.
but ive been having some trouble finding a sacred heart i actually want to get tattooed.
anybody know where i can get some descent sacred hearts?
TattooJohnny is great for old school flash but if you truly want some respectable old school work in the scheme you are wanting find some Sailor Jerry flash. A true pioneer of tattoos with amazing old school flash (the flash is expensive). I suggest finding a shop that may have some. Most likely if they do it will be framed on the wall but they may have copies of it.

Does anyone have any recommendations?
Becca in London is amazing, I’m sure she does old school sailor tatts. She works at Blood Brothers on Holloway Road. Link below is to her myspace where you can see her photos if you have an account- if not you need to sign up.

I’m designing a half-sleeve tattoo for my forearm, but i need a few ideas to fill in the gaps. It’s all old-school and rockabilly type stuff, e.g. pin-up girls, anchors etc.
Any ideas? I need as many as possible… Thanks!
Some old school tats here http://www.bmeink.com/netos001.html

I’m looking to find a really good site that discusses different tattoo designs, older and newer, where they originated from, styles and artists – anyone got any ideas for good sites?

depends on the flash, usually its either the artist themselves or the company that produced the flash. Your best bet is to find out the artists name and do some research from that. For example some of the lyle tuttle stuff is owned by the sailor jerry museum

pictures would also help, but I could google them myself too
what about oriental? is that similar?
Well, having over 20 tats myself, I’d honestly have to say the Asian Koi thing everybody is going for nowadays. I think it’s the most similar because of the elaborateness of the waves, coral, etc. It has more structure, a concept, a purpose. However, tats are meant to be original. You don’t want to be one of those people walking around with Tribal… cause 9 times out of 10, you know they got it in the late 90’s when it was cool. Don’t make your ink look dated. Come up with a concept and a good tattoo artist will take it from there. They don’t like to be given too much direction. Let them do their thing. That’s what they do for a living. Much like if you were a doctor, you wouldn’t like the patient under anesthesia telling you where to cut & snip. LOL Good Luck!!!

I’d recommend Flamin Eight in Kentish Town, they are excellent. I had my last two tattoos done there and would not go anywhere else. Ask for Harry, he’s just great.

Especially when talking about black and grey tattoos
artistically*
is it possible for a tattoo to have a mix of both "old" and "new" school style?
old school = look up sailor jerry or artist like jeff zuck(alot of harsh lines and dark (black) shadding)
new school= more color, lighter lines, mlore color and grey shadding rather than black look up and artist aaron cox
